What Instruction SEM 2/2026 changes
Since 22 June 2026 you can apply for another permit while keeping temporary protection. The time you have lived in Spain under temporary protection counts towards the 2 years required for arraigo and the 5 years for long-term residence.

З 22 червня 2026 року ви можете подати заяву на інший дозвіл на проживання, зберігаючи тимчасовий захист. Час, прожитий в Іспанії з тимчасовим захистом, зараховується до 2 років, необхідних для arraigo, і до 5 років для довгострокового проживання.

Frequently asked questions
Do I lose temporary protection if I apply for another permit?
No. Instruction SEM 2/2026 lets you apply while keeping your protection. Do not give it up until the new permit is granted.
Can I keep working while my application is processed?
Yes. Temporary protection allows you to work while it is valid, including during processing.
What happens if I do nothing before 4 March 2027?
If protection is not extended again, you could be left without a permit. Apply in good time, as decisions can take months.
Do my children need to apply too?
Yes. Each family member needs their own permit. We prepare all applications together.
