There are three routes depending on who your relative in Spain is: a resident foreigner, a Spanish citizen or a citizen of another EU country.

If you hold a renewable permit: spouse or partner, children and, in some cases, parents.
Family member of a Spanish citizen
Own permit for the spouse, partner, children and dependent parents of a Spaniard.
EU family member card
For relatives of citizens of other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland.
Family reunification
- For foreigners with a renewed or long-term permit
- Spouse or partner, children and, in some cases, dependent parents
- Housing report and means based on the IPREM index
- Once approved, the relative applies for a visa at the consulate
Family member of a Spanish citizen
- Residence permit for spouse or partner, children and dependent parents
- Governed by the Immigration Regulation since May 2025
- Valid 5 years, work allowed
Family member of an EU citizen
- For relatives of citizens of other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland
- Residence card for family members of Union citizens
- Valid 5 years
